Reading Resources

1

Example Lesson

I know the value of listening to another teacher explain reading strategies in a classroom. In this lesson I do so with the book "Van Gogh Deception" for a middle school class. It covers: A book discussion, vocabulary, and starting a reading project.

Vocabulary

This resource provides ideas and examples of using vocabulary in the classroom or as a homeschool parent. It walks through how to use it and provides examples or resources.

2

Comprehension

Comprehension strategies are super important in ensuring students are understanding what they are reading. This resource provides three great strategies and how to use them with a real book.

4

Fluency

All students need practice with reading fluency. Fluency is the ability to speak smoothly with expression while reading a story aloud.  This resource is specifically for middle school students, however, the strategies can be applied to younger students.

5

Literacy Autobiography

The literacy autobiography provides an engaging exploration into the students' own literacy journey. It also helps to assess the students' interest and technological abilities. This can also be modified for a book roadmap where the student provides a character's journey throughout the book.

6

Example Lesson Plan

This resource provides an in depth look at  a lesson plan rational, literacy components and explanations, followed by a lesson plan for reading using The Van Gogh Deception. It also includes state standards to support the framework of the lesson plan and provides validity.

Poetry Assessment

This is a demonstration of a poetry rubric and using AhaSlides. It also provides ideas in how to differentiate instruction based on student needs.
